About
Dr Chris Gräbe is a passionate Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Pretoria, Gauteng. In 1984 he obtained his medical degree (MBChB) from the University of Pretoria and proceeded to do his internship at Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria in 1985.
After serving in the military for two years, Dr Gräbe became a Medical Officer and later became a Registrar in Orthopaedic Surgery at Kalafong and Pretoria Academic Hospitals, University of Pretoria. He fell in love with Orthopaedic Surgery and found it fulfilling to be able to help people walk better without feeling any pain. He then furthered his studies in 1994 and obtained his master’s degree (MMed) in Orthopaedics. He was awarded the G.F. Dommisse prize as the best Orthopaedic Registrar at the University of Pretoria in 1994.
Dr Gräbe also became a Fellow of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa (FCS (SA) Orth), as well as a Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pretoria. In 1995, he opened his private practice in Pretoria and also became a Part-time Consultant at the Foot and Ankle Clinic, Steve Biko Academic Hospital.
Dr Gräbe specializes in the full range of foot and ankle surgery. His repertoire also includes fracture management, foot reconstruction and arthroscopy. He is an active member of the South African Foot Surgeons Association and has also been President of the Association from 2008-2010. He is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
